Dynamic Currency Conversion

Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) gives e-commerce merchants the option to allow their customers pay in their own local currency. This service is called RealFX and is available to all Realex Payments clients as standard. RealFX allows you to price in your own currency while giving your customers the choice to pay in the currency of their card, in full compliance with Visa and MasterCard regulations.

How does DCC work?

• The merchant will connect to the Realex Payments RealFX service. RealFX will detect if a foreign issued card is being used by the customer. It will automatically offer the customer the option to pay for the product in their own currency e.g. Australian Dollars (AUD).
• The customer is then presented with the option to proceed with the transaction in their home currency.
• If the cardholder agrees, Realex Payments then submits the transaction for authorisation and the customer pays the selected amount in their local currency.
• This process is fully compliant with the Visa and MasterCard scheme rules in relation to cardholder currency conversion.
• The details in relation to the conversion are transparent to the cardholder.
• The merchants can view all data in relation to the transaction in RealControl the online Realex Payments reporting tool.

What are the benefits of DCC?

• Simplicity: The merchant will continue to price and receive payment for all goods and services in pounds sterling.
• Ease of integration: Merchants will connect to the Realex Payments service either through a remote integration or through a redirect service.
• Transparency: All data in relation to a DCC transaction is displayed to the cardholder during the purchase process. In addition the merchant can view the data online through our RealControl reporting application.
• A revenue opportunity: The merchant will receive a share of the currency conversion revenue.
